Stan Bennett was born in Chico, CA and grew up mostly in Palo Alto (in the San Francisco Bay Area). Following service with the First Marine Division in WW2, he graduated from San Jose State College (now University). For the next 20 years he held positions in the graphic arts industry, including technical writing and illustration, art direction, editing, and photography. He was also vice president of a large technical publications and engineering company.

During these years Stan was involved in all phases of design and production of complex mechanical and electronic systems manuals for both government and commercial use. This background, plus a highly developed natural mechanical aptitude, has contributed since 1968 to a unique approach to metal sculpture. Now, his welded steel, copper and brass creations are found in collections internationally.

Stan's studio is in Ferndale in the northwestern corner of California. Visitors are encouraged to experience a live artist-in-action event as he produces dragons, airplanes, locomotives, and various other kinetic sculptures, including his now-famous Magic Marble Machines. His wide range of capability includes much that is associated with engineering and design, and this is evident in his work.

Each piece is original. No two are identical. Stan Bennett's creations evoke an immediate positive response, making the viewer a participant. It is art that is fun to play with.
